Tikia Travis is a 22-year-old Chicago native and alumna of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where she earned her bachelor's degree in English. Tikia has hopes of becoming an English Professor and will continue to further her education in pursuit of her PhD. Early in life, Tikia gained a knack for writing. She began writing children’s stories at the age of 7, and continues to write short stories throughout her collegiate career. Tikia has written for HER Campus Online Magazine, WhatsTheWordTV, LLC, Agent Publishing Magazine, written press releases for start-up companies, as well as profile pieces for professional leaders and some local artists which she showcased on her self-titled website. Tikia’s business skills have landed her many opportunities to work with administrative and faculty leaders on UIC’s campus. Her most recent professional work has been co-writing and co-publishing a manuscript geared toward the experiences of undergraduate African American women on UIC’s campus. With a bright future ahead of her, Tikia never fails to surprise her peers with her work efforts and work in the community. Tikia is also the "Face of UIC" where she is a part of the ad campaign to promote enrollment. She is also a Season 7 contestant for the Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race". She never fails to say that she has lived a full life and thanks God. Learning what it means to work hard and smart for her are the following: To love selflessly. To be happy. And to live her life to the fullest with dignity, sass, and, of course, class.
